Candaulism is a sexual fetish and practice which occurs between consenting adults. It involves an individual exposing or offering their sexual partner to one or more onlookers. It is closely related to voyeurism and exhibitionism, as it involves an individual enjoying the view or display of another person's body. Candaulism is a form of sexual play that has been around for centuries, but has only recently become more widely understood in today's society.

The term Candaulism is derived from the ancient Greek story of Candaules, King of Lydia, and his wife, Nyssia. The story goes that Nyssia discovered her husband had been showing off her nudity to one of his trusted servants and was so outraged by this that she demanded the servant be put to death. Although the original story focused on a man displaying a woman, today’s interpretation sees both men and women engaging in the practice of candauliste.

There are many reasons why someone may engage in Candaulism, and these can vary from person to person. Some couples may enjoy the thrill of being seen, and the heightened pleasure that comes from sexual activity when it is witnessed by a third party. Others may be interested in exploring the power dynamics that become apparent with Candaulism – either through the involuntary objectification of their partner or through the exchange of power between the onlooker and participants.

Candaulism can also provide a welcomed opportunity to explore fantasies of being watched without having to directly involve another person in their sexual relationship. While Candaulism has the potential to be a pleasurable and consensual activity, there are also risks associated with engaging in it. These may include physical risks such as infection, or emotional risks such as feelings of humiliation or vulnerability.

Individuals should ensure that both they and their partner are comfortable with the situation, and establish trust and clear communication boundaries beforehand. A third party should also be someone they know and trust, and of course it should go without saying that absolutely no one is to be exposed to unanticipated or unwanted voyeurism.Ultimately, the decision to engage in Candaulism is a personal one and something that is only to be shared between consenting adults.

Those who are interested in trying out this particular form of sexual play should ensure that they know and trust all involved, and that they are aware of the potential risks associated with Candaulism before any activities take place. With proper communication and consent, it can be a pleasurable and exciting form of sexual play for all involved.
